Nyc & NJ Yellow Taxi 5 Rules to Follow When Using a Taxi Service in New York

1. Always Leave A Gratuity

Unless your cab service fell far short of your expectations, you should always tip the driver extra.

Typically, 15-20% of your total bill is the appropriate amount to tip, especially in larger cities like New York or Albany.

Just keep in mind that tips can significantly increase a driver's earnings. Tipping generously can help to close the wage gap and contribute to the future of excellent transportation services.

2. Be Courteous

This may seem obvious, but not everyone treats cab drivers with the respect they deserve.

Don't be impolite to your driver. This includes cursing, yelling, arguing, or otherwise being a nuisance during the ride.

While you are welcome to make specific requests or request a specific route, do not harass the driver about their route choice or the speed at which they are traveling. Keep in mind that they've been doing this for a long time.

If your driver strikes up a conversation with you and you're not in the mood, simply tell them politely that you don't want to talk. Don't just ignore them or say something rude to them.

3. There is no PDA.

While it may appear sexy in movies, there is nothing sexy about making out in the back seat (or more).

Nobody, especially your driver, wants to see what's going on in the backseat. When you're in a cab, keep it classy and keep your hands to yourself. Try to keep all of your romantic feelings in check until you reach your destination.

4. Refrain From Eating Or Drinking

Be mindful of food and drink inside the taxi.

Consider this: would you be pleased if someone brought food into your office and left crumbs all over the place?

The majority of taxi drivers do not allow food in their vehicles. Crumbs, stains, and strong odors are difficult to remove for the driver, so please finish your food and drink before getting in.

If you really want to eat something that isn't too messy, make sure you get permission from your driver first.

5. Don't Ask For Too Much Most people, including drivers, don't like being asked to break the law while on the job.

Don't ask for anything ridiculous or outlandish. This includes requesting that a driver exceed the speed limit, transport more passengers than they are legally permitted to carry, or take an illegal route.

If you are pulled over, the driver will be held accountable, and people may be injured. It's preferable to arrive a few minutes late than to have an accident.
